Story Behind The Coffee
In the heart of Minas Gerais, a pristine coffee-producing state of Brazil, there are vast stretches of grassy hills and rugged mountains, with warm temperatures and gentle precipitation–the ideal climate for coffee production. Here, there is the protectedSerra do Brigadeiro State Park, which is the home of Sítio Matinha, the farm where this coffee was grown. With a beautiful view of waterfalls and the Minas mountains, Sítio Matinha shines brightly amongst the amazing coffee producers of Minas. In 1967, the area of land was acquired byMr. Edio Anacleto Miranda. The land was filled with weeds and pasture but contained much potential. The farm has since been developed and passed down to Edio’s son, Edson, and has become the home for the Miranda family. It was only within the last couple of decades that the quality of the coffee grown here was discovered with the acquisition of a coffee processing machine. This then led to the success at many competitions, where the quality was recognized.Currently, the farm is owned and run byEdson Junior De Miranda with the help of his family and hired help during the harvest. The processing alone is conducted solely by the family, revealing the true dedication to quality. The coffee is carefully hand picked during the harvest and transported to the mill where it is prepared to dry with the external cherry intact. Once dried, the cherries are hulled and prepared for export. In 2021, this exceptional lot placed 13thin the Brazil Cup of Excellence competition. Edson and his family are constantly seeking ways to improve both quality and sustainability.Environmental Sustainability Of utmost importance on the farm, especially since the farm is located in a protected wilderness area. They are constantly looking for ways to incorporate nature with production to create a balanced environment
